Public libraries funding
In accordance with the Slovenian legislation, each municipality is required to provide library service for its citizens, either by establishing its own library or jointly with other municipalities, or by commissioning the provision of library service to another public library in agreement with its founder.
Public libraries are mostly financed by local communities, which contribute 95% of the total funding. To support the coordinated development of public library service, the Ministry of Culture provides the funds for the annual purchase of library stock and computer equipment. Public libraries also receive funding for their activities from other sources.
