The Slovenian Public Libraries Association is an independent, voluntary and non-profit association of all public libraries in the Republic of Slovenia. It is an organization where libraries come together to pursue common interests in the field.

The Association’s purpose and objectives are:
– To create national, global, cultural and political definitions in the field of public libraries
– To cooperate with the relevant ministry and administrative bodies in the formulation of library and library system policies
– To coordinate the specific tasks of the regional libraries and projects at national level
– To participate in the formulation of professional views and opinions and in the drafting of library legislation and regulations
– To follow the legislation and regulations implementation
– To promote the introduction and implementation of national and international standards in the operation of public libraries
– To follow the fulfilment of norms and standards by public libraries
– To monitor the public libraries status
– To monitor the public libraries development
– To monitor the public libraries funding
– To enforce the proper evaluation of libraries
– To cooperate with NUL and IZUM and other institutions
– To represent the common interests of public libraries vis-à-vis the State and local authorities
– To inform the members of the public of the views, opinions and proposals of the Association and its members
