Generation Code: Born at the Library 2020

Generation Code: Born at the Library is an interactive exhibition showcasing the top innovative digital exhibits from public libraries across the EU. This year, we have decided to take the event online!

The exhibition explores how future technologies are interacting with libraries in Europe. This year we are also looking at how libraries can continue supporting their communities in the fields of digital education and digital societies even when the buildings are shut.

In the EU, over 2.3 million people a year attend a digital literacy course in their library, learning anything from basic digital skills to coding. This is a time to celebrate the amazing work that public libraries do every day in filling the digital gap of our communities.

Join and explore the exciting world of coding, robotics, 3D printing, virtual reality and much more with fun activities that simulate the daily work of public libraries in introducing people to new technologies!

Over October 13 and 14 we will be organising various online sessions for you to drop into!

Did one of the library exhibits inspire you and you want to sit down and talk to them? There will be 2 sessions where you can meet the exhibitors and ask them questions about their activities and discuss them in more detail.

Various experts from the library sector and the European institutions will host webinars touching on topics such as:

  • The Digital Education Action Plan
  • EU Code Week
  • Data Detox Youth

…and more! You’ll be able to discuss with these experts and ask them any burning questions you might have.

We will also have Brando Benifei (Italy, S&D) and Silvia Modig (Finland, GUE/NGL) join us for a plenary session to discuss all things legislative in the EU and what libraries should keep an eye on for the next few years.
